Ninja Turtles: The Next Shell
My 2 piece statement collection is inspired by the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The stories follow four anthropomorphic turtle brothers living in the underground sewage system in New York city where they learn ninjutsu and eat pizza when they're not fighting evil.
Such quirky characters needed names to match. The four brothers are Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo after the Italian Renaissance artists.
I knew my time in university was the moment to push and explore and have fun with my work and see what I could accomplish. I love the original comics, much like animations today, the comics are fun and exciting but with a cool and seductive undertone because they are more for an adult audience looking to laugh. The colours and textures of comic book art is so eye- catching, combined with my strong obsession for anything turtle; the theme is perfect for me and my style.
